Membership Covenant

What Exactly Does It Mean Be A Member?

At Eastgate Baptist Church we never ask our members to do more than the Bible clearly teaches & we only expect our members to do what the Bible clearly expects every Christian to do.  These responsibilities are spelled out in this covenant of membership.

Having received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, being baptized, and being in agreement with Eastgate Baptist’s faith, leadership, and spirit of unity, I feel led by the Holy Spirit to also unite myself with this local church family as a member.  In doing so, I commit myself to God and to other members of this family to do the following…

I Will Protect the Unity of my Church

  • By sharing in love toward other members
  • By refusing to gossip
  • By praying for the leadership of our church
  • By following the leadership in our church family

Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” - Romans 15: 5-6

“…fervently love one another from the heart, for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God..” - 1 Peter 1:22-23

Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” - Ephesians 4:29

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.” - Hebrews 13:17

I Will Share The Responsibilities of my Church

  • By praying for its growth and my growth
  • By inviting the un-churched to attend
  • By warmly welcoming those who visit
  • By serving in the care of the church

We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers.” -1 Thessalonians 1:2

"Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled...” - Luke 14:23

Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.” - Romans 15:7

I Will Serve The Ministry of my Church

  • By discovering my gifts and talents
  • By being equipped to serve by my pastor, teachers, & leadership
  • By developing a servant’s heart
  • By using my abilities to serve others.

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” - 1 Peter 4:10

And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.”- Ephesians 4:11-12

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.  Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant…  - Philippians 2:3-7

I Will Support The Testimony of my Church

  • By attending faithfully
  • By living a godly life
  • By giving regularly
  • By leading my family

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.” - Hebrews 10:23-25

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”- Philippians 1:27

But just as you abound in everything, in faith and utterance and knowledge and in all earnestness and in the love we inspired in you, see that you abound in this gracious work also.”  - 2 Corinthians 8:7

“Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.  Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” - 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

all the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord.” - Leviticus 27:30
